At the beginning of September, the most used browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari) stopped accepting newly issued SSL certificates valid for 2 years. Only SSL certificates issued for a period of 1 year will continue to be accepted. This measure, which mainly concerns commercial certificates, is intended to increase the flexibility to respond to security problems.
In response to this measure, some certification authorities have begun to provide the option to purchase a commercial SSL certificate for a longer period in the form of a subscription. A certificate with a subscription is currently issued for the longest possible time, and before it expires, it is enough to regenerate it – this will shift the expiration date. The advantage is time savings and financial benefits of the subscription.
